Church of great historical importance for the city of Venice, San Pietro di Castello is situated on the Olivolo island, now best known as the Castello district. The church, originally founded as the seat of a bishopric (775-1451), has become over time and later in the patriarchal cathedral until 1807, when with the fall of the Republic of Venice, San Marco, not playing more of a state church, became the new seat of the Patriarch.
Victim of a fire, in 1120 the church was rebuilt on the original plan faithfully taking the most impressive size. Subjected to various alterations and renovations, St. Peter the Apostle assumed the current fees due to the work performed in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth century. The facade was originally designed by Andrea Palladio in 1556, was renewed by Francesco Smeraldi which kept its essential lines.
The plant has a Latin cross, has three naves, the central one higher order and lower order of the two sides, divided by three arches, the center of the transept, however, rises the dome, the lantern now decapitated following a bombing of the First World War.
The imposing main altar, made of marble of various colors according to a draft Longhena, holds the relics of St. Lorenzo Giustiniani, first Patriarch of Venice.
The right nave preserves the famous chair of St. Peter that tradition attributes to St. Peter at the time of his activity as bishop of Antioch, built on a Muslim funeral stele engraved with verses from the Koran in Kufic. Decorated mainly in early-seventeenth century, the church holds within it the works of great value as:

The Madonna and Child with the souls in Purgatory (1650) by Luca Giordano kept Vendramin Chapel located in the north transept;
The mosaic altarpiece of Arminio Zuccato (1570) made of Jacopo Tintoretto cardboard that stands in the chapel Lando in the left aisle of the church;
The punishment of the snakes of Pietro Liberi to the right of sanctuary;
Cross the majestic wood and embossed copper result of fusion of Byzantine and Romanesque shares of 1500, which is to the left of the presbytery.

The organ of the eighteenth century, is the result of a Pietro Nachini‘s creation, a famous Dalmatian organ builder.
Outside the tower, whose work began in 1463, was rebuilt by Mauro Codussi due to damage suffered as a result of lightning. Codussi increased the height of the tower and covered it in Istrian stone, placing a small dome on top successivamene replaced by a polygonal drum.

The church, erected in the northern part of Cannaregio in the mid-fourteenth century by the Congregation of Humble, was originally dedicated to St. Christopher and later to Our Lady.
The present name was wanted by the people following the placement of the statue of the Virgin and Child, a work partially unfinished by Giovanni de Santi, built originally commissioned by the parish priest of Santa Maria Formosa, which, still under construction, not finding a his taste rejected it. De Santi, then, decided to place it provisionally in his garden one night when his wife noticed that the statue strange glow emanated. Following the rapid spread of the news, the site was the destination of countless pilgrimages. The statue was highly venerated by the faithful and some miracles began to occur. The Bishop of San Pietro di Castello, then, urged the sculptor to transfer the statue of the Madonna in the church – now kept in the chapel of San Mauro. The Church is one of the best example of Venetian Gothic.
The charming facade, divided into three parts, was made of brick and is considered one of the most beautiful and interesting facades of the churches of Venice. In the sloping left and right, are kept within the twelve niches statues of the Apostles, from the work of Masegne, while in the lateral areas of the stand out in a beautiful four-Gothic. The central part, are located in the upper part of which a large central rose window and a smaller one on top ‘, houses the magnificent portal by Bartolomeo Bon in whose tower the pointed arch and Renaissance statues of the Archangel Gabriel Annunciation probably attributable to Antonio Rizzo, while to the upper stands the statue of St. Christopher Raverti Gothic work of Matthew.
The interior is very bright and is made up of a typical rectangular basilica with three naves with massive marble columns supporting arches greek double frame.
The church of Our Lady of the garden houses a collection of ten paintings by Tintoretto, of inestimable value, including:

Presentation of Mary at the Temple (1550 – 1553) on the right aisle;
The Beheading of St. Paul (1550 – 1553) on the right side of the apse;
The four Cardinal Virtues: Prudence and Fortitude, the apse;
The vision of the Cross in S. Peter (1550 – 1553) which is located on the left side of the apse;
The Last Judgement (1563) located on the right side of the chancel;
The worship of the golden calf (1563) on the left side of the chancel;
The Miracle of St. Agnes (1575) kept in the chapel or Contarini “Celestine”;

Rich in works of art, the temple houses the first altar on the right, the altarpiece of St. John the Baptist and Saints, dating from the fifteenth century, by Giambattista Cima da Conegliano.

Built together with the monastery in 1388 on commission of the noblewoman Antonia Venier, this church was dedicated to Louis of Toulouse, Bishop of that city, known in Venice as Sant’Alvise, which appeared in a dream to indicate the exact location of the buildings.
The church is located next to Madonna dell’Orto‘s church in the northern part of Cannaregio. The building we can admire today is the result of the changes made in the seventeenth century to the original version. The facade of a disarming simplicity, it is embellished by the portal made of Istrian stone embellished by a fifteenth statue of St. Alvise. The interior consists of a nave crossed transversely from the original chancel roof, also known as boarding, supported by columns and buttresses in Gothic style. The Barco, used by the nuns, is linked to the monastery, in which he retired Antonia Vernier. The ceiling, of great beauty, was designed by Pietro Antonio Torri and Pietro Ricchi (seventeenth century)..
The church kept the cone masterpieces such as:

Stories from the Old Testament represented in tempera on tablets of Lazzaro Bastiani (XV cent.)

Ascent of Christ at Calvary, the Flagellation and the Crowning with Thorns (1737-1740) by Giambattista Tiepolo

Erected in the same district of Venice, the church finds its origins in the ninth century. The first building was partially modified in the fifteenth century with the introduction of Gothic elements such as special side door of Bon, and then in 1804 by David Rossi replacing the columns of the nave and closing and reopening some of the other openings, the modified ‘artistic expression of the church by the late – Gothic to neoclassical. Subsequent restorations have been reported to highlight some key elements of the initial structure: the apsidal presbytery, the mullioned windows of the facade and the wooden ceiling above the nave. Even San Polo does not miss a rich collection of works of art made by:

The Virgin appeared to St. John Nepomuceno, the second altar on the left aisle, a masterpiece by Giambattista Tiepolo (1754).

The Saints and the Assumption and the Last Supper by Tintoretto;

The beautiful paintings that adorn the Salviati Chapel of the Sacrament;

The marriage of Paolo Veronese placed on the altar of the Chapel of the Sacrament;

Paintings by Jacopo Palma the Younger placed in the sanctuary

The Oratory of the Crucifix, was originally built where the entrance from the main facade – now no longer possible – is considered the first work of Giandomenico Tiepolo, son of the great master Giambattista and retains the fourteen Stations of the Cross.
Outside, the bell tower built in 1362, has an input “guarded” from above by two lions facing each one with a snake, the other with a human head between his paws.
